Tate Modern presents Frida: The Making of an Icon from 25 June 2026 to 3 January 2027, a wide-ranging look at how Frida Kahlo became one of the most influential artists of her time and an internationally recognised commercial icon. Organised by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, in collaboration with Tate Modern, the exhibition brings together over 30 works by Kahlo and more than 200 works by her contemporaries and later generations, alongside garments, jewellery, photographs and memorabilia. The finale examines \u0018Fridamania\u0019 with over 200 commercial objects reflecting Kahlo\u0019s art, image, style and persona. The exhibition is presented in partnership with Lead Global Supporter, Bank of America; supported by John J. Studzinski CBE, with further support from The Dyers\u0019 Company and additional support from the Frida: Making of an Icon Supporters Circle and Tate Members.<\/p>\n
The presentation introduces multiple facets of Kahlo\u0019s life and work \u0013 from the dedicated wife and intellectual to the modern artist and political activist \u0013 through major paintings and a constellation of responses from other artists. Among the works and artists featured are:<\/p>\n
Frida: The Making of an Icon is on Level 3 of the Natalie Bell Building at Tate Modern, Bankside, London SE1 9TG. Advance booking is recommended. Standard tickets are \u0000a325 and free for Members; concessions are available and tickets are \u0000a35 for Tate Collective. The ticket price for children aged 12\u001318 has been reduced until 1 September as part of the Great British Summer Savings Scheme. The gallery is open until 21.00 every Friday and Saturday, until 20.00 on Sundays until 30 August, and until 20.00 on Monday 31 August.<\/p>\n

All Tate Modern entrances are step-free, with lifts to every floor of the Blavatnik and Natalie Bell buildings. Fully accessible toilets are on every floor; a quiet room is available on Level 4 of the Natalie Bell Building, and ear defenders can be borrowed from Ticket desks.<\/p>\n
Food and drink options include a Mexican dining experience inspired by Frida Kahlo, created in collaboration with Santiago Lastra, founder of Michelin-starred Mexican restaurant KOL. Exhibition-plus-lunch or dinner packages are available for visits to 31 August 2026, with a seasonal set menu from 1 September 2026.
