Met Opera’s Opera for All Opens 70,000 Free Seats to Lapsed New Yorkers
Beginning this month, the Metropolitan Opera will give away 10,000 tickets a month — about one in ten seats for the season — to New Yorkers who haven’t set foot inside since 2019 under Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s “Opera for All,” which he tied to Fiorello La Guardia’s 1943 “People’s Opera” that sold seats for 75 cents.

Harriet Mena Hill’s series Soft Concrete and The Aylesbury Fragments reframe London’s Aylesbury Estate, translating its architecture into wool portraits and intimate paintings on salvaged concrete amid a phased demolition that began after a 2005 decision. Regeneration started in 2013 and is less than half complete; Hill has made more than 150 paintings to date.
