Joel Sartores Photo Ark Hits 18,567 Animal Portraitsand Keeps Growing

National Geographic photographer Joel Sartores Photo Ark has documented 18,567 animals to date, aiming for more than 25,000 species through portraits shot against plain black or white backgrounds. Launched in 2006 in Lincoln, Nebraska, the project now spans institutions worldwide and includes grants through the 2023 Photo Ark Species Impact Initiative.
