Simon Laveuves Miniature Shelters Find Their Footing on Rock and Stilts

Simon Laveuve imagines survival at a strikingly intimate scale. His 1/35-scale, post-apocalyptic domiciles balance on stilts and boulders, outfitted with tiny chairs, boxes of produce, fishing gear, and other daily essentials. Though no figures appear, traces of activity suggest inhabitants have just stepped away, leaving behind scenes that feel both resourceful and vulnerable.

The artist pairs humble necessities with objects that look scavenged and repurposed into tools and furniture, composing compact worlds that hold fast in unlikely places. It is a vision he frames succinctly: the work speaks to this fundamental need: finding a place to hold on, the artist tells Colossal. And, from that point of anchorage, to live.

Anchored in Rock

Laveuves solo exhibition, Ancre9 dans la roche (Anchored in Rock), foregrounds his ongoing preoccupation with dwellings in unexpected and often precarious sites, where anonymous builders make do with whats at hand. The theme runs through recent mixed-media works from 2026, in which shelters cling to their supports with a tenacity that mirrors life amid contemporary political and economic turbulence.

Perched on rock and upheld by makeshift structure, these idiosyncratic miniatures distill resilience into meticulously crafted fragments of placea quiet, persistent search for footing in unsettled terrain.
